I wanted familiarity and that's what I got

I got this model as a replacement for my DMR-EX75 which suddenly stopped working after a power cut. Most newer models didn't appear to have the ability to connect a Sky+ or TiVo box, although it's quite possible I've misunderstood the connectivity of newer devices, but this model is so similar to my previous one there is no learning curve. I have been a little surprised to discover some limitations in high speed copy, and don't seem to be able to do exactly what I did with the previous model. This one seems very particular in the type of recordable DVD's you choose, what aspect ratio is in play when a program is recorded (still trying to find out where those settings are) and what speed. All things considered, I'm happy with the purchase, I can connect, record and archive what I want to ...

A great product that is now out of date and they are all getting tired

This is an old piece of kit and anyone that buys one on EBay needs to understand that there are several areas where these fall apart. I was only buying this for spares for another unit so it was not necessary for it to work fully just that the DVD drive was okay. There are a number of failed capacitors both on the main board and the power supply. These are an easy swap but there was start up issues with the hard disc that because of its age really didn't matter that much. There are heat issues on the main board too which are to do with inadequate heat sinking from new but then given its age you wouldn't expect much else and to be honest I have seen far worse! I could have put it back together but there are so many of these currently on EBay that I had done what I needed for my customer ...

  • Everything fine...

I already have this exact model of dvd recorder so it was easy for me to set up and test. Everything fine, the usual excellent recording quality, DVD-RAM compatibility is a big plus on these machines. The presence of a SCART socket, which the latest dvd and blu ray recorders do not have, allow for connection to old VHS video recorders for ease of transfer of old tapes to DVD.

  • An excellent recorder, unfortunately no longer made.

This pre-owned recorder replaces an identical machine which failed after many years' service. It has a Freeview tuner, records on to hard drive, and recordings can be copied from hard drive on to disc if so desired. This recorder is no longer made, and modern recorders do not appear to have disc facilities. Panasonic are very reliable in my experience.

  • Almost the best ive had but unhappy after long term use

See end of review for update. Well, to start with seller was brilliant to deal with, item in A1 condition. I had grown sick of the hitachi/sharp/grundig clones all breaking down, and need at least 2 PVR units due to shifts, so got a Humax 9200 cheap on ebay, then saw this just over £100. Would get full 5 stars if not for the fact you cant watch another channel while recording, like my previous PVR's, although you can still watch recorded stuff no problem. Not the end of the world, but have been used to be able to do that without going directly to TV to watch other channels. Probably the best quality pic ive had too, maybe down to the tuner, I dont know. Had heard the panasonic were hard to use menu wise, but no more than humax as far as I can tell so far. Copes well with series record ...
