Beautiful to look at, beautiful to play. Having hankered after an ES335 for years I finally decided to take the plunge with the Epiphone Dot, and I'm so glad I did. When it arrived no photo could do it justice, the finish is absolutely faultless and the Aqua Marine flame Maple is simply stunning. As it's modelled on the ES335 the neck is slightly wider than I'm used to but I adjusted very quickly and with the standard action set up as it arrived I've found the instrument so easy to play, hand gliding up and down the neck like it was made of silk. Electronics are in the standard configuration and the instrument comes with Alnico Classics which I initially found to be a little low on output due to them being based on the 'classic' design, so if you're after a screaming, shredding machine this isn't the instrument for you. A few tweaks of the amp settings soon compensated for this though and the absolutely saturated tone available from both bridge and neck more than make up for this. At the end of the day pickups can always be changed but I would be very loath to consider this as I really wouldn't want to compromise the beautiful, full tonal range available. Tune-o-matic bridge is as would be expected and provides wonderful sustain which in itself also helps with controlled feedback. Tuners are very smooth and a joy to use. All in all this is a wonderful instrument and although I own other guitars I have played nothing else since its arrival.Read full review
