A very nice, value for money spanner set. I have yet to use them in anger over longer periods (and I havent owned them for long), yet first impressions are very good. I have been buying Hilka tools on and off for over 30 years and they have, to date, always provided excellent value and service for me (I am a DIY user and I have also used Hilka products when an engineer). I would say that the gearing in the ratchets dont feel quite as refined as the more expensive brands, put at this price point Im not surprised - hopefully this aspect wont make a lot of difference to me. I always look for 'value for money' (VFM) products as opposed to 'cheap and cheerful' products, sadly many big businesses/manufacturers have blurred the lines somewhat in this regard and have just plumped for the 'cheap' and there being very little middle ground between cheap and high end (as some cheaper products are now marketed as mid-range/VFM) and so it seems to be getting harder and harder to find decent VFM products for DIY use - this applies to most markets and products. When these types of ratchet spanners first came out they were very expensive (as the professional and thus more expensive brands were the only brands manufacturing/marketing them to professionals) and a bit of a considered purchase for most DIYers, how the latest incarnation of Hilka's products measure up to those brands and Hilka of old, I have yet to find out, yet as I said the spanners look good and work well thus far. I would say that these will be ideal for the DIY mechanic/DIYer and maybe, if as good as Hilka, or old, the apprentice/professional too (time will tell on that front). Ratchet spanners make most jobs - which require the use of a ring spanner et al - easier and less fatiguing, with the ring staying on the nut/bolt head and the ratchet action doing most of the work. This facility is ideal for repetitive tasks, awkward spaces, those with dexterity issues and indeed those who need to do a lot of spanner work. If this review system allows, maybe I can report back on further use in time.Read full review

These items were posted and arrived in good time. They were well wrapped and packed. On opening I found them to be very thick and clumsy with the rachet lever and mountings made of cheap plastic. These spanners are evidently only for use on already loose 00nuts and not intended for tightening or loosening uncracked nuts. This makes them as much practical use as a chocolate teapot. I have a set of slim and well made japanese rachet ring spanners which have functioned under every type of conditions for 20 years plus. These new ones broke within ten minutes straight from the packet. I threw the lot in the bin and put the money loss down to experience. My return request was rebuffed. Avoid this tacky product like the plague.

Well made, easy to use. I have used these for coach bolts into wood so far, be careful as the rivet on the head can score the wood when you get close.
