OK, I'm a bit paranoid about backups - I learned to be long ago at work. But I still carry the same mindset about my own files, so I want multiple backups for my own data, photos and music. Fine, most of my "keeper" photos are on Flickr - but I'm still paranoid and want my own personal copy! Plus, I want off-site backups - my insurance might pay for the house to be rebuilt if it burns down, but it can't bring my books, paintings or computer files back. Unless I do the computer file restoration myself - all the paper stuff will be gone forever. This is far and away the best way to do it that I've found so far. Yep, you can buy an external USB drive, or buy a drive enclosure and set up an external USB drive yourself. I've done both, and they work fine. This docking station just cuts out the "middle man". Pop a 2.5" or 3.5" drive in it, and it works just like a USB memory "stick". As many times as you like. So, you can use old drives, or buy new ones if you need to. The only on-cost is the cost of the drive itself. So easy to make multiple backups - makes a hell of a lot of sense to me!Read full review

This USB cradle docky thing works perfect on WinXp & Win7 and transfers USB 3 real nippy like, so I bought two. They cause interference on one of my Samsung 710 monitors which had liquid spilled on, so that may be the reason. Hard drive slips easily inside as long as you carefully line up the sata connector. Fairly heavy alloy case is nice and solid feeling. BONUS! The adapter (PSU) doesn't turn red if left switched on, so just boot the dock and it'll talk to windows and transfer in seconds.
