I bought this item because I travel a lot, can't afford fancy headphones, but do have a noise cancelling set that I use when flying. My iPad seems to put out a low volume which makes the audio for movies hard to hear. The TP NX1a solves that, with an increase in volume that is very adjustable to give a good level without being too loud. Manufacture quality is good, metal construction, very good value.

It looks solidly built, but the amplifier is extremely sensitive to interference, which is very annoying when using it on the bus, train or metro. The intererence is so loud that I can only use it at home.

I'd been looking for a headphone amp for some while to support my iPod. While I have a lot of newer headphones and earbuds that the iPod has no trouble driving, my favourite headphones are an older set of Sennheisers that were designed to be driven by a hifi amp not a lower powered mp3 player. The NX1s seemed to fit all the requirements, so I purchased one. So, the good bits. This is a high quality bit of kit. from build quality right down to the accessories and the package it comes in. When used alongside my iPod it detracts from the sound in no way that I can tell and adds a little power across the board. It's exceptionally easy to use; charge it up, connect and away you go. The downside, from my perspective anyway, is that it adds very little power and output to what the iPod can manage with my old, harder to drive Sennheisers, and for that I have to admit I was rather disappointed. So, if you are using newer easy to drive headphones this unit will add a little power and overall boost to your listening enjoyment. If you are looking to give some oomph to older harder to drive classic headphones, look elsewhere.Read full review

I also have an nx1 but got the 1a for longer battery life. My wife has a S.M.S.L which cost twice as much and does not compare in sound, volume and build quality.

Having used a headphone and amp combination costing well into 4 figures at home, was very sceptical what a 20 quid amp could possibly achieve. The quality of finish is far higher than you could seriously expect, and the sound quality and headphone driving ability much improved. Battery life is amazing and all round a worthwhile improvement to the enjoyment of music from my phone and tablet. If you have headphones that outstrip the ability of your portable devices, this is an amazingly cheap option to improve matters.
