The Canon 2x Teleconverter II is a great photography tool, which when used properly gives greater reach to a few high quality L lenses with f stops in the 2.8 or lower range. S it perfect, no. Is it useful yes very. I own a Canon T3i and a 70-200 2.8 L non IS lense. And this combination rocks. With in 2X Teleconverter II my 70mm-200mm is now a high quality 224mm-640mm f 5.6 lense . You do need to know how to take a photo, and how your equipment works. I hand hold in the bright Florida sun and watch my shutter speeds. At about f10 the combination of 70mm-200mm L glass with offers very high quality images. Put it on a tripod and it's a killer. It's heavy, slow, and inexpensive. So what, it's also about $2,000 cheaper then other options with the same quality. In short: know how to take a picture, know what it will and will not work with equipment wise and get to long range pictures you really want at a fraction of the cost. I use it for birds mostly. But under bright lights you can take anything using correct techniques. 90% of low ratings are from people who try to use this with the wrong equipment, don't know a shutter speed, aperture or technique. Best of luck.Read full review
