A great classic film with two good actors (Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard) playing intense roles. Could watch it again and again and still find it entertaining. Made in 1945, and set just before the 2nd world war, Brief Encounter is a nostalgic, romantic film about two strangers (a married woman and a doctor) who, through a chance meeting in a railway station, start with a casual friendship which, over a cup of tea and a cake in the station café, develops into an intense emotional relationship neither of them expected, and ends painfully as they eventually have to part each other's company, and, sadly, go back to their old way of life - never to meet again. For those who like watching old black and white films made in the 1940s, this is a lovely film to watch.

high quality DVD very good value for money and engrossing if very dated story, as someone who can remember the times when we had steam engines and borrowed books from Boots it was very believable and the photography of the station etc., was first class
