Cheap, available in different colours and just works what more can you ask for. Can confirm its plug and play no soft-wear needed on 2015 pro retina macbook. Also I have burned a few CD's with no errors or skipping so far. DVD's just open automatically with my mac's dvd player in built soft-wear I would also recommend VLC media player to watch DVD's through on with Mac or PC (It's Free). Defiantly worth the money.

Maybe it does for some people still using the old operating systems like Windows XP or Windows 7. However, if you use Windows 10 or any modern Linux distribution, this drive probably won't work. It looks like one of these cheap Chinese products that was on the market many years ago, but is no longer compatible with modern operating systems. The device comes with just a very tiny small print manual that is half in Chinese and is designed for Windows XP users. There is no CD or anything with drivers for it. Because this is a classical 'no name' device, you cant search for drivers online. From Linux's lsusb it seems that this model uses Matshita drive that has lots of problems in Windows 10 or Linux. Apparently LG and few other brands used to put these in their drives that are now unsupported on W10. I can live without W10, but if it doesnt even work on Linux (tested on an old and new kernels) then this device is useless. After plugging in, it opens, you can insert CD or DVD but it fails to read it. Its like in a loop trying to read the disc, but nothing happens. It may be its just a faulty model i received, but online there are lots of queries from people about this particular Matshita drive and problems in W10 and Linux. I didnt test on Mac OS but i guess its the same thing... I dont blame the seller as i knew what i was buying (brand new, but old device and technology).Read full review

When I saw this item advertised I thought for the price it wouldn't be up to much, how wrong I was, this is a great little machine, it's compact and performs well, you have to download the VLC Media player which is a free download, but honestly the Slimline External CD/DVD Drive is excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anyone, 10/10

I bought this so that I could transfer my CD collection onto my iTunes library. To date I have done about 20 CDs. Most times I have had to open the drawer 2 to 3 times before the disc actually reads. Can be quite frustrating. Does work eventually. Just need to persevere.

Simply plug in and off you go, has read all the media I have used so far. Not tried writing to it but I'm pretty sure it'll do the job. One caveat is that when closing the drive you need to ensure you push from either side of the drive but for the cost of the drive I can live with that..
