These arrive in a box with a multi-language instructions sheet and two cables; one USB-to-round DC charging jack (for the lamp) and the other being a round DC jack to female USB for charging your USB device if you so wish. If charging the lamp via USB it recommends 4 hours maximum connection time. This USB-out charging facility must be by use of the crank mechanism; it will not charge your USB device from the internal (300mAh) battery and charges at 300 - 450 mA/5v according to instructions. The lamp expands from the flat torch by pulling apart and (on the first few uses at least) requires quite a firm pull in order to extend the concertina-like lamp. Push to return to the torch position and the two halves click together quite firmly; it appears quite well-made. Having a three-position touch switch is handy and effective, so going from off to low light to maximum to off again is an easy task. The light output is surprisingly good, even the lower option being brighter than I had expected. In all honesty this appears to be a good-quality item and was weightier than I expected. If it lasts a reasonable length of time I will be happy, as this is for home use in an area where we suffer regular power cuts. Just as a word of warning, prior to ordering this product I ordered a similar but less-pricey alternative from another large online retailer only to find that (whilst looking very similar) it did not work. I know it happens, but there was quite a difference in weight and feel to this one too. Overall then have to say that this appears to be a good torch/lamp that does just what it says it will do. The only improvement I would make is in changing the round DC jack to a micro-USB one but honestly, that's a minor quibble and the product is very good.Read full review

I wanted a rechargeable lantern which also charges my phone overnight when camping. Being able to wind and charge it is a bonus. However, you can only charge the phone from the lamp by winding it; it doesn't charge from the internal battery. Perhaps I misunderstood the concept but it's not what I wanted.

Compact folding light, that is powered by hand winding crank, also has the added bonus of charging up phones etc by USB cable.

Great product, well designed and thought through. Light is bright, with two brightness levels and ability to change from torch to lamp. Love that you can also charge from it.

I was given one of these as a gift and was so pleased with it that I bought one for my eleven year old grandson. It is so beautifully made that it's a pleasing item to look at and handle. When it's collapsed it's a handy torch that will never let you down, and when it's extended it provides a bright lantern. And the fact that you can generate it by manually winding it appeals to me.
