I got this as a replacement for my Etrex Vista Hcx (which got stolen) I have had the vista hc and the vista c before it, so I can compare them all Plus side - an even faster processor than Hcx Even more sensitive gps receiver than hcx . The hcx worked well in venice alleyways when the Hc did not Faster satellite lock on than Hcx Has 65k colour screen rather than 256 Runs the GB discovery maps 1:50k Finally handles multiple maps on the same sd card with any map names You can enable / disable in the menu any overlapping maps (not available on Hcx) Handles up to 32gb sd cards 30hrs off AA Lithium battery Wifi 2gb built in memory (at last) It does not eat batteries like your phone GPS and it is more sensitive (eg under tree cover)and more accurate You can always carry 2 spare AA cells Minus Clunky menu Clunkyer menu than the Hcx! Sd card now under battery. BUT as you now have no need to swap sd cards (as you can enable /disable maps in menu eg topo/non topo) it is of no importance and have I mentioned the clunky menu? Case does not seem to be as heavily rubberised as hcx Buy this product if you like walking / traveling the world. Maps available for everywhere (South Africa, Morocco, USA national parks, Columbia, Iceland, TOpo for ski resorts with ski runs etc)Read full review
Bought to use on Dartmoor with my new Dog. Used for downloading routes and following them. Good Points: Small, batteries last ages, easy to use, can compare position easily to paper map. Bad Points: Slow to load maps, comes with no maps (you will have to buy maps which are expensive), updating direction can be slow too. Overall it does what is says on the box and is very good for geocaching in particular.
I use this for geocaching & it is fantastic. Built in compass is the only addition over the etrex 20. Not being touch screen is a bonus, as they are often difficult to operate when wet or with cold fingers. Recommend open source maps for it as they are easy to upload, free & just as good as paid for maps.
