The display is large and clear and the 4 buttons are functional for a timer. The alarm is loud. The battery is a cell one at the back and the cover is secured with a little screw. The timer can either be standing or put on a vertical magnetic surface as it has 4 round magnets in each corner. A quality product with smart design features.

Selected because of Salter name, mistake! Setting buttons are cheap and nasty and not responsive. When alarm goes off, you can barely hear it, you certainly wouldn't in the adjoining room. Replaced the battery (piddly little aspirin type) with a new one...made no difference. Thoroughly dissapointed, really should be withdrawn from the market by Salter!

Easy to read, easy to use kitchen timer. Can be used standalone or magnetic which makes it very versatile. Only improvement would be making it a combined clock/timer. Easy to carry around with you if you need to carry on with other chores whilst timing your cooking.

I bought this item because the smaller model I got a few weeks earlier was hardly audible: certainly not in the neighbouring room. This model is easy to use and although louder than the smaller model is still not loud enough. It is certainly nowhere near as loud as the old Salter one that we had for several years and gave us sterling service until it packed in recently. Why do firms insist on introducing new models when the old one is fine.

I bought a similar chinese product last year and it was rubbish. This one is of a better quality, but still looks like it would die if I drop it on a hard surface. There is a stand - picture frame style - on the back which pivots out to support it on a worktop, but it is really flimsy, and will break in time no doubt. On the functional side, the timer has a count down and alarm facility, in both minutes and seconds, and a count up with no alarm facility if you prefer to time things that way, starting at zero it keeps counting minutes and seconds until you reset it. I wish it had a more robust stand, I would have paid a couple of quid more, but for a tenner, it is what it is. I think Lakeland sell them if you have a branch near you, same price.
