The guillotine works perfect. The support to position for sizing isn't all great and not square to the blade (may be shipping issues). Need to be very careful if you try to repeat exact size eveytime. But overall if it is just to do an approximate cut (to the eye) then it's perfect. The blade is very sharp. There is also a safety lock.

I had hoped that some of the negative reviews were 'picky' but I now realise that they are pretty accurate. First and foremost, this is not a "professional" quality guillotine - it's relatively flimsy and, in my opinion, is not suitable for regular usage. However, if you just want something to trip the occasional piece (or pieces) of paper then this unit MIGHT be suitable. Observations / usage experiences. The guide / ruler at the top (hearted the hinge) is not securely fixed - it was slanted on my unit and hence was not at exactly 90degrees to the blade - hence making a 'square' cogent was not possible until I had realigned the guide, which was relatively simple as it is held in place by three screws, two of which are easily accessible. Because of the nature of the design, whereby the blade exerts slight pressure against the base (so as to, in theory, give a good cut) any pieces of paper larger than A5 will have a tendency to ride up along the cutting edge and either tear or give a curved cut - a less than ideal situation. The fix is to press on the edge of the paper and hold it down on the base, but this is potentially dangerous as you run the risk of slicing off your fingertips! I found that making small (A5 and smaller) cuts was pretty accurate (assuming that the above steps were carried out) but A4 tended to tear the paper at the bottom of the blade stroke (i.e. the paper furthest away from the blade hinge), regardless of whether the paper was held down or not. The 90 degree paper guide (the movable one, shown in black on the item picture) was, as best, flimsy and needs to be held in place during cutting or else it will move - and hence your cuts will not be accurate. This means that you need three hands to achieve accurate cuts - one holding this guide, one holding the paper and one operating the blade. Conclusion. It's cheap, might be useful if you don't need to make accurate cuts, but is not a "professional" item.Read full review

If you only need to use this for a few items (like printing your own wedding invitations) then this will do the job. It does eventually get blunt though and has a limited life span. I had to use washi tape to mark my own guide lines and measurements as the printed ones weren't completely aligned. A good cheap purchase for the price if you're after a non expensive way to cut a few bits of paper/thin card but if you want professional results and a long lasting product then you should be prepared to spend a lot more on a guillotine.

The machine is too flimsy - the alignment bar moves about and when cutting there is nothing to prevent the paper from curling, producing slanting cuts. I'm afraid the old adage "you get what you pay for" applies here. There is nothing "professional" about it. If you want true cuts, and a reliable way of measuring the cut size this machine is not for you. Cheap and cheerful but not fit for the job. Better off with a rotary trimmer for light work, or a heavy-duty guillotine for serious cutting.

I bought this as I make paper chains every year for a winter festive feel to our hall. Rather than using scissors again I thought I would buy a guillotine to help with speed etc. This is a great little buy OK you can only cut about 12 sheets of A4 at a time but for my needs it was more than perfect. You do need to hold the paper in place so it doesn't get moved off key through cutting but it's nothing major. For the price I paid I can not complain about a single thing.
