My neighbour wanted long handled shears to avoid having to squat down or bend to cut the grass on her small garden so this seemed to be ideal. It is a sturdy, sharp and quality product but it is awkward to use and doesn't save on backache. The angle is such that only a couple of inches of the blade cuts when standing so unless you bend so that the blade is horizontal with the ground it would take forever, if your back can take it, to cut a small patch of lawn. I gave up after about 10 minutes and reached for the electric strimmer then finished the edging with conventional shears. Maybe there is some technique I have missed but it looks as though it will remain in pristine condition from lack of use.

Having had a total hip replacement I needed a pair shears to cut the grass as I could not bend down and this tool fitted the bill enabling me to stand upright and trim the grass on my grass paths. I have only given it three stars however because there several things that were not quite right for me. It would be a far better tool if the handles were more at right angles rather than the shallow angle as supplied, okay for a short person but not 6ft tall. When cutting, the blades do not close fully at the tips which means you cannot cut up into corners and when the handles close during cutting they bring the knuckles on your hands together with a thump which can be quite painful if you are cutting vigorously. At the price paid it does the job, the blades are sharp (don't know how for) pity really because if a little more thought had gone into the design, with a couple of tweaks it could have been a first class tool. The shears were sharp but would not cut grass,on inspection and with engineering experience I noticed the blades were not set correctly, shears of this type need a slight curve in the blades to make sure the sharp edges of the blades come in contact with each other, this setting makes sure the blades will cut. Because of my engineering experience it was a simple job for me to set the blades correctly. The problem is with out this knowledge another purchasers would have to return the shears. I personally contacted the supplier and explained the problem and what I had done and advised them to check the rest of there stock to prevent this happening again. Steve Woodend.

They are just as I imagined, except that for me (a 78-year-old woman. average height and in excellent health) I find them a bit too heavy to use for any length of time if I hold them by the handles. I hold them further down and it's much easier for me, although I do hit my legs sometimes! They are very sharp and effective, and someone younger and stronger wouldn't have any problem. I have no complaints and would recommend them.

Sadly despite, supposedly being lawn shears, when put to the test, the shears just would not cut my lawn. with grass stalks slipping between the blades rather than being cut. I had bought them to trim some of the areas of a small lawn that grew faster than others, but despite cutting some grass, most stalks slipped between the blades of the shears, despite tightening the lock nut. In the end I bought a cheap pair of hedge trimmers which do the job perfectly!
