I have just begun to look into carving wood and needed a cheap knife to see if I have any aptitude. The knife is of a simple design with good quality wood and metal which have been built well. I have used it to good effect and it does quite well. It doesn't glide through the wood at depth (although that might be my lack of strength) but at shallower depths it's very effective. There have been several times I have been overly ambitious and cut too deeply but each time the blade has come out of the carving easily and without bending the blade. The knife sits comfortably in the hand and you can apply pressure along any part of the handle which is handy for fiddly bits. Although the blade could possibly be sharper (I'll try sharpening it soon) for the price you really can't go far wrong with this. I did try other cheap tools before this but they were completely blunt and bent as soon as I applied pressure. This is sturdy and a great little knife to get started.Read full review

too flimsy for working on hardwood , would be perfect for softwood balsa or similarking

just beginning whittling as a new hobby, bought this to start out. seems pretty decent and under ten pound, does the job, cut my thumb a few times as i am still in practice and waiting on a glove and thumb guard. handle is nice and comfy, blade comes reasonably sharp. recommend for beginners starting out and not sure what tools to get. i will probably end up getting the triple set for £20 if i become good at this. i cant comment on the steel and durability as i have not had it long. hope this helps anyone on the fence. UPDATE: 12/11/2016 the knife is still going, i have not sharpened it yet as i do not feel it has become that dull. But then again i do not find the time to whitt that much these days, i mainly do a few cuts every other day just when i am waiting for a program to load & compile or something at the desk. Some may laugh and call me amateur, but its more therapeutic for me like this, otherwise i lose my patience. But overall its still decent, I cut my thumb a few times but its my fault for cheating with a pull cut sometimes instead of a push ;). successful ones so far, i have made a slightly bigger version of a chess board horse, a running horse and a creeping fox so far. i also did a few tutorials with this knife and have messed many jobs up prior to my successes. i am happy with this blade and would easily buy another from sheffield made.Read full review

I haven't used it in anger yet; however, it appears well made and is clearly very sharp. I'm not sure about the handle, though. Not the best profile, and I don't like the gap below the tang of the blade, in the handle. After a significant time of use, this could make for sore fingers. But it is a very good price, and given that consideration, I think it is a good buy.

This knife comes sharp and ready to use, pretty good quality for the price & feels comfortable in the hand. The blade is a little thin making it easy to kink the point if you’re working on harder woods and are not careful ...still a great little carving knife!
