The system is excellent, arrived very promptly from the supplier. The sound quality is very good as I have matched this Hi-fi with some Monitor Audio BR1's. This system replaced a 25 old Kenwood seperates system with Mordaunt Short Floorstanders. The sound quality is as good as the old system but a fraction of the size with a much greater level of functionality. I purchased this as a refurbished item and it was not packed with a power lead, I sourced one for £1.99. I beleive to bet full ipod compatability you require the Denon ipod dock. As I understand this is quite expensive. I have been using my ipod connected through jack plugs. Admittedly this it to the detriment of the sound quality when using the ipod as a source.
This little system, is still a great performer although now superseded. They suffer from one or two stock faults but are much more reliable than many other similar products out there. Working units are selling on ebay for around £115 - £140. Perhaps a record to stick feature would have been nice, otherwise does everything you need.
I'll start off by saying i'm a dedicated seperates fan. I've had many of these one box type units (from several different manufacturers) come through my hands and most of them were truly dreadful they really were. Not this though. I had some people round a couple of days ago, including some of which who, like me are picky when it comes to sound quality. So I switched from seperates too this and not one person out of 25 noticed. Neither did I. Well maybe ever so slightly on a couple of extended notes but stumped otherwise. My seperates are an Arcam 8r/7se and speakers are Celestion Ditton 44's, which will expose flawed components, so I give this little lump praise indeed. The only other one box I've ever got on with in the past just so happens too be a DM38DAB. Still haven't worked out the difference between that and this when the same cd is played through them though and as the 39dab has an awful noisy cd transport...! If I wanted too be picky though i'd sack whoever set up the volume. It jumps too much from say 12-13 and then massively by 16. However when something so small creates a big full sound as this box does it becomes only a minor nuisance. The bass from this is more than decent. It's controllable as is the treble which comes in handy when this is hooked up too the telly. Leave it set at 2 with music though. Voices are expressed well and the soundstaging is surprisingly large. All in all this and the 38dab are winners and I wouldn't be remotely fussed about which one I'd have if given one. Either one of them would compete easily with decent budget gear plus that front USB comes in more than handy. Though I think I remember a little background hiss when using headphones once though in fairness the headphone were only £4.99.Read full review
Ive had a Denon unit, a little like this one, in the kitchen for the last 8 years. I replaced it, not because there was anything wrong with it, but just to up-grade to DAB and a useful USB input too. This unit is perfect. Simple, well built, great sound, and hopefully just as rugged and reliable as the last one. It doesn't weigh quite as much as the last Japanese built one, and I noticed it is assembled in China now (no shocks or surprises there really) so I just hope the previous quality is still there... Time will tell...
Great sound output and so easy to use. Small unit fits on small shelf. Basic Denon speakers perfectly adequate for home living room. USB input allows huge number of albums to be stored and played. iPod/iPhone can also be connected.
