I bought this planer to replace one that is almost identical to another I purchased from B&Q under their Macalister brand about 8 years ago. It does not come with a case and unfortunately it will not quite fit my Macalister case. However, the unit is well built and I am used to the double safety which some reviews say is awkward. My only gripe is that on first use the planer did not cut evenly because the blade heights had not been set up correctly during manufacture. This necessitated spending about 15 minutes removing the red paint on each of the height adjustment grub screws in order to adjust them with the Alan key.

Actually, this could be a very useful tool. It's well made and is powerful enough for most small jobs for which it was obviously intended. It could be very handy, but for me, it was spoiled by its ergonomics. To be precise I found it very uncomfortable to use. My hands, perhaps not quite large enough, and a little bit arthritic because of my advancing years just could not seem to coordinate the power switch and the safety cut-out feature which is, of course, absolutely vital for the safe use of a power tool of this sort. It's not enough of a negative to justify sending it back but will inhibit my use of it future. A great pity, because I recognise its potential. Buy this only if you have large hands and a strong grip! Please Mr Triton, how about a re-design and test it out on persons with smaller hands.Read full review

Like others I find this plane very difficult to use. I have quite large hands and yet I find it difficult to hold the plane comfortably while holding the power button on. I can only manage about five minutes use beofre I need to stop to give my hands time to recover. It is a great pity as it looks, and could have been a very hand small tool. It's not like Triton to get it so wrong.

I agree with others regarding the switching on this compact plane . It’s is awkward to use as a palm planer. The plane is well built and good value but goodness knows what the designers we’re thinking of when designing the switch gear.
