This is a very good DVD for the price. I was expecting to see just three songs, but I was pleasantly surprised by the "extras". First we have the songs that I was expecting: 1. Highway Star Rare footage from German TV c. 1972 - cue psychedelic backdrops of album covers etc. It's quite a different version from the Machine Head one - the lyrics are a bit different and the solos aren't as well formed. The main guitar solo seems to be mainly "whammy bar abuse" but it is interesting to see this rare footage that I had only ever seen a few seconds of previously. 2. No, No, No Seems to be from German TV again - quite an authentic version of the song from the Fireball album. 3. Hallelujah An early gem from the classic Mark 2 line up - I understand that it's the first thing that they recorded after Gillan and Glover joined in 1969. Rare black and white footage, showing some virtuoso guitar work from the man in black... the song is written by Greenaway and Cook, and is nothing to do with X-Factor etc. All these three songs in this section and the next are full length. The next section is a "pop up DVD" version of the above three songs. i.e. the same footage, but with extra facts, figures, trivia etc on screen. Nice for music geeks... this is similar to the "pop up video" that used to be on late night TV in the nineties, if any of you remember that programme. Section 3 is general trailers for other "DVD EP" compilations that are in the series. You get approx 30 seconds of each so these are just "tasters". Section 4 is the "video jukebox" that shows songs (or part of...) from other "classic" music DVDs in the series. There's about half an hour of footage here, and the most notable ones are: Mockingbird by Barclay James Harvest live footage from 1974 - a complete song Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath live footage c. 1980 - unfortunately just a minute or so, and just of the "audience singalong" bit in the middle. I would have liked to have seen a lot more of this and less of the "introducing the band members" Big Country footage that was elsewhere in this section. Sunshine of Your Love by Jack Bruce Jack Bruce and friends doing most of the song live All told, you get approx an hour's worth of music. Excellent value for money and some very interesting rare material.Read full review
