I can only compare this to the XC16-50 kit that came with my XT10, and my 18mm f2 (which I love). I bought a mint example for the price of a brand new 35f2. I find the 53mm focal length very versatile. Images are super sharp and very naturally rendered. Depth of field and subject separation is a strong point on this lens. It feels good on the camera and it's very nicely built. Some say the focus is slow, particularly when compared to the f2 version, but it's a stop faster anyway and focuses faster than the 18mm so I'm happy with that.

I've had my XF-35mm f1:1'4 Fuji Lens for about three years on X-Pro1 and X-M1 bodies. Apart from slightly noisy operation under the very quietest conditions, This lens is as near faultless as possible. Criticisms about focus are nit picking and when teamed with the correct AF settings for the shot you're taking, I defy you to make it miss a shot in anything brighter than the moist dimly lit of conditions. I have taken hundreds upon hundreds of night time shots with this and the similarly fantastic XF-18 f1:1.2 and rarely missed a shot. Operation is sublime, the Aperture ring is perfectly detented, sized and weighted. Manual focus is focus by wire which should be avoided on all Fuji Lenses. IQ is unbelievable at any price, comparable to the very best Zeiss or even Leica can offer. Resolution, Colour Depth, Bokeh are all beautiful. The lens is Sharp, very fast and compact enough to pop Camera and lens attached into a coat pocket or comfortably hide under a loose fitting Jacket. After three years faultless service mine still looks like new, a big mark then for durability and quality of exterior finishes. It is astounding value for money, thus I have no hesitation recommending this lens most highly.Read full review

I love this focal length - and would be perfectly happy if this was my only lens. It’s compact and light, and unobtrusive in any situation, but it’s beautifully sharp, crisp, contrasty and provide great depth-of-field control. Highly recommended, if you like a good prime lens.

I find this to be an absolutely stunning lens. The only other lens I have had that performed anything like it was the amazing Contax G 45mm f2.0. The Fuji is the only lens I have yet used on a digital body that has provided such sharpness. At full aperture in the very corner the sharpness still exceeds the resolution of the X-PRO1 16.3MP sensor. The weakest aspect of the lens is its control of internal reflections. Its performance in this respect is by no means weak but to my eyes is not quite up to the high standards of the Contax G series Zeiss T* lenses. It compensates partly with an extremely efficient lens hood. The lens is light, small, quiet (with the most recent firmware update), has a wide maximum aperture and focusses snappily on the X-PRO1. The wide aperture gives beautiful out of focus bokh in all conditions I have yet used it in. The feel and resistance of the focussing ring and aperture ring are perfect to my touch. The lens barrel is of an all metal construction. It feels solid and has an incredibly lightweight. If you are on your feet with this on your camera all day long this is something you will fast come to appreciate.Read full review
Both are great lenses - so you can’t exactly go wrong. Pros of the older f1.4, it has loads of character, it’s incredibly sharp and produces incredible bokeh. Negatives, it’s the nosiest lens in the Fuji line up, with the 60mm perhaps equal. It frequently hunts to hit focus. Now the Fuji f2 - it’s weather sealed, almost silent, quick to focus, very sharp and produces nice bokeh. It honestly feels like a more advanced lens, compared to the noising old f1.4. That said, it still doesn’t compete with that special Look you get form the 1.4. It’s a very close call between them... neither “smashes” the other as some people like to claim. Personal preference is key here, so I’d suggest trying both. The F2 is definitely more bang for you buck though.
