It's plastic, but it's GOOD plastic!
Outside measurements of jug: Height 18cm, Diameter 10cm, Plastic Thickness 3mm On first opening the box I thought they had sent a glass jug by mistake as the jug plastic was clear as glass. It is a really good looking but sturdy item, and when they describe it as "Shatterproof" - they do not lie!!! I had some difficulty at first trying to fit it into my old ONE PIECE PLASTIC BODEM JUG HOLDER, but after a little trial and error found the following worked (ymmv). (Other multi-piece holder styles may not have this problem, I don't know). 1. Lean the jug back so the top rear of the jug goes to the back of the handle top overhang (past where the slot is). 2. Make sure the spout of the jug is now opposite to the top of the handle. 3. The back base of the jug should already be inside the ... The back base of the jug should already be inside the circle of the handle base so try squeezing the bottom front of the jug to push it backwards into the base. 4. This may not work if you're not Tarzan, - so carefully turn the whole thing over so the top is flat on the table, (maybe on a bread board?), and then keep rapping the base of the handle with the heel of your hand (or maybe a hammer, mallet, brick, book, whatever) until the base of the jug pops into the handle base. - (Mine was a very tight fit and this is where the 'Shatterproof' bit is very reassuring) - Hopefully the spout will still be opposite the handle when you've finished. 5. Once you've got the jug base into and flat against the handle base, turn it right way up again and get hold of the very top of the handle and pull back on it until the rim of the jug slides forward along the handle overhang and pops into the slot on the handle top. Now you hopefully have a working cafe presse again. To remove the glass jug (for washing?), get a firm hold of the jug and using your thumb or forefinger pull the handle overhang bead up and back from the jug until the slot comes free from the rim and then from the jug entirely. (Or get the nearest available bloke to do it if you value your nails). Now you can pull and wiggle the jug back and forth in the handle until it comes loose. In my experience the tightness loosens a bit as you use the presse and do it more often. Alternatively you could perhaps wash the jug whilst still in the handle. I expect the plastic jug will suffer from a little scratching as time goes by, since the sliding gauze filter parts are made of metal, but that's compensated for in my opinion by the low cost and sheer robustness of the cafe presse unit as it now is with the new jug.

Good non-glass replacement for Bodum coffee press
Fitted well in existing Bodum Jug. Looks like the glass that it replaces. Don't know yet whether it will mark with use or what will happen if it gets dropped so can't advise on this. So far, I am pleased with my purchase.
