Excellent for copying old videos to DVD. Keeps old memories alive. Even got a short film of my wedding 41 years ago via Cine to Video to dvd.
I state that this item is excellent, purely because it does all that I ask if it and is quiet in operation in both Video and DVD mode. The case is rather on the large side but it is very robust and fit for purpose. I bought mine mainly for saving some aging family video tapes from degrading and the job of Dubbing was made easy with the one touch button. The recording button glows a very bright red whilst in operation, which draws the eye somewhat, but cannot be overlooked. Selecting the LP mode of 2hrs 59mins hrs over the default SP of 2hrs 07mins on a DVD+R, made all the difference to recording. Quality of recording is good and there is plenty of scope for recording on a variety of DVD formats. Some requiring a more modern styled and feature filled unit, would possibly be disappointed, but for me it is quite sufficient and will prove itself invaluable. I found it necessary to clean the video head after three elderly tapes had been run through, as the sound and picture quality suffered due to head contamination. A quick head clean put the recorder back on form and the completed DVDs were of good quality. As with other Phillips products, they seem dated even when new. I feel that this is not a negative point. This is a robust, quality, reliable, low frills machine, with enough features to aid the home user produce some very pleasing results and save those precious moments. I may even use it for TV recording to DVD or Video, for which it is well suited of course, but for now it will be used for archiving older tapes for my family and friends. I would recommend it.Read full review
Having now owned both a VHS recorder and a Recordable DVD player made by Phillips this has now prompted me to buy a combi unit! I can quite honestly say (Who cannot say?) I have owned several items made by Phillips, I have fitted several items by Phillips and had to contact Phillips over the years. And they are an excellent company to deal with is my take and I for one am quite happy to continue buying there goods while a certain part of my appendage points to the floor!! I expect this item to be no better or worse than any other I have owned. But rest assured if it is I know I can also get it fixed as Phillips are also the most repaired by most people I know of. Be honest WHO DOESN'T repair Phillips stuff?
