I have a very neat and tidy garden and I live in a neighbourhood with lots of cats. Cats are interesting, they will not go to the toilet in their own garden or their litter tray (assuming their owners have purchased the cat one) but instead they prefer to leave dirty, stinky, bacteria-ridden piles of runny faeces in other people’s gardens. For several years I have tried deterrents like purchasing sprays which allege to contains aroma which the cat will find repelling. The cats find it a challenge to overpower the smell with their own smell. The cats always win. Then I purchased ‘Lion Poo’ (don’t waste your money). Finally I purchase a solar powered device which claimed to emit a frequency which would deter the cats. It was significantly cheaper than this one, with no batteries, no pitch adjustment, sensitivity adjustment etc. The device looked very similar to this one (same shape and colour). This device did not work either so I abandoned the idea of technology beating the smelly b*****d cats. Finally after another year of much grumbling, picking up someone else’s pet’s diarrhoea (what do these owners feed their cats?!?) and disposing of it, I got so desperate I tried another device. This time I figured money was no object, and even considered purchasing a “BB gun” or air pistol for a few minutes until I figured I could genuinely go insane, waiting to catch a dirty cat in the act, and then of course I would have to deal with an injured (or worse possibly, dead) animal. Eventually I thought I would purchase the most technologically advanced device and probably waste more money but I was desperate. This device was nearly £20 (almost five times as expensive as the earlier device but obviously it did not work). I can’t believe I am going to write this but the device has been in action nearly one month and no cat deposits! I haven’t even seen a cat in the garden. You do have to read the instructions to make sure your device emits the correct frequency for the type of animal you are trying to deter and, if it is winter like now, you have to remember to plug it in maybe once a week as there is not enough solar energy to keep it topped up but I really don’t care; there is no cat poo in my garden!!! I thoroughly recommend this device.Read full review

As a cat or fox scarer it seems to work. It stopped the foxes from pooing on my driveway. Unfortunately the batteries don't last. They discharge quickly and the solar panel is unable to charge the batteries, even on a sunny day like we've had today. I tried some better quality rechargeable batteries but it's not made any difference. The pnly solution is to bring the device in to charge up every couple of days.

Still under test, but seems to be working so far. This was a replacement purchase after a cheaper one failed after just two days. The build quality on this unit is much better. The built in rechargeable batteries seem to work and the solar panel is keeping them charged. No cats since the unit was installed, hoping this continues

I had purchased two of these three years ago and can verify that they really do work ! Having moved house ( and taken them with me ) I needed a third one for the front garden to deter cats leaving their ' calling card '. One thing that is VITAL with this make is as follows : There are two control knobs on the device. The left hand one is dialled round to set the sensitivity - I recommend number four. The control knob on the right first switches the device on - hear the click - then you further rotate the knob to the chosen number according to the pest you want to deter. IT IS VITAL, that you look carefully at the small embossed arrow on the knob and set it in ONE careful rotation to the desired number WITHOUT going past it and rotating it back. If you rotate it back, it won't work at all. You MUST turn the knob all the way back to OFF, and hear it click. Then, in a good light, so you can see the little arrow, carefully reset it clockwise again to the number you want. Another tip, is to use it straight away, to deplete the batteries supplied, before recharging fully. Be amazed, it really does work - if you set it properly.Read full review

I've tried carefully to set the position of the controls as per the instructions, taking it from zero to the point required (ie not turning the dial back to get the setting required). I have also charged it up on several occasions in case the sun was not recharging it properly. But the cats still visit the vicinity of the pond and do not seem perturbed by it at all. I would not recommend this at all.
