Hi I bought this lens to use as a portrait lens on my Canon 7D. Images are very sharp and no noticeable distortion. very pleased with it. The lens is manual focus so a little slower to use but I am getting used to that, the focus indicator light in the camera viewfinder works though and so does the bleep. I bought it in preference to the cheaper Canon 50mm f1.4 because of the autofocus unreliability on the canon lens. The Zeiss lens is very heavy as it is all metal construction and is very robust. If I lost this lens I would buy another immediately.
I use it for filming on a Panasonic GH3 and have wanted one since I first got into filmmaking/video about 5 years ago. Check out 'Sofia's People' on Philip Bloom's Vimeo and you too will want one of these lenses. Ignore the negative reviews, whilst they do offer food for thought, Zeiss image quality is legendary. The first thing I used it on was a paid gig shot on a shoulder rig in a tight studio environment. The image quality is incredible and the focusing ring really helped me out because it is buttery smooth. An excellent lens.
A beautiful lens. Well made, solid feel and a joy to use. The focus ring is lovely and smooth, no jerky movements. and as for the picture quality...nothing short of excellent.
