I bought this item because it's a cheaper vision of an IPod,and I needed to store all my CD's Tapes and Records and this was the easiest way of doing it.Once you have studied the manual its easy a pie to play with. It's a bit on the bulky side, but has a belt clip so you can clip it on.This product is robust and good value compared to some others on today's market.

I bought a 30Gb one of these with a dead battery and a new battery, changed the battery and upgraded the hard drive with a 60gb drive I had lurking around. It takes a standard 2.5" IDE laptop drive and you don't have to do anything special. So I now have a 60Gb Zen Mp3 player, it is a weighty item and it sits well in my hand, the controls have taken a little getting used to as they are mounted on the sides of the player, but they do fit comfortably into your hand when you are holding it. I love th eplayer, the sound from it is very very good the battery life is brilliant and it is exactly what I would expect from a company like Creative. The construction is very solid with a thick plastic chassis and aluminium plates front and back, it has never locked and works very well. Down sides? Well its a bit chunky and weights a bit (due to the hard drive) but in comparison to other MP3 players of a similar vintage it isn't bad, my biggest gripe is the interface software, although easy to use once its installed it is showing its age and is problematic if faced with Vista, I haven't tried it on Windows 7 but I have an old laptop running XP that works well. Why did I buy it? well Creative has always been a quality brand, anyone remember the AWE64 sound card? and they have a very good reputation for products. The main reason though is that I really dislike Apple and Ipods, you pay more to get less apart from the name and Itunes is annoying. So save your money buy a bit of retro chic and invest in a creative labs Zen.Read full review
Without a doubt, the best GUI for an MP3 player is that of the IPod. But I truly dislike Apple and its exclusivity. So I decided to go for known technology and Creative Zen have a good reputation for solid quality. I am not disappointed with the build but I am far from pleased with the interface which is far from intuitive. I like to think of myself as a "Techie" but I still had to pore over the PDF instructions several times to work out how to load and play my music the way I wanted to. A beautifully made player spoilt by a clunky interface.
Great old school mp3/wma portable music player!!! If you are a little fed up with the build quality of products manufactured in todays format of easily breakable, high volume, throw away products which have the feeling of no substance, no quality and might snap in two if you didnt treat it with kid gloves, then you might like to take a look at the Creative Nomad Jukebox ZEN Xtra; its pretty old now, uses an old type of interface, (creative's supplied software isn't the best) and still uses an internal drive as its storage medium but it feels a lot more robust than the newer players on sale today. Sound quality is great and there's plenty of different EAX sound models to try :-) One flaw I have heard of is that if you drop the player with its charging wire still connected/inserted and by some fluke it lands heavily on that wire/socket (in area where that wire inserts) the player can get damaged irreversibly and all it does is switch off and on continuously - so beware!!!! Some newer players break at the slightest knock and are rendered useless unless you pay an exorbitant repair price and/or have insurance to cover repair or replacement :-( Its no longer supported (upto and including Win XP 64bit) by Creative but I've had mine for years and its still going fine. A better user interface for use with this player is Notmad Explorer (can be a little glichy at times) which allows for drag and drop via computer whereas Creative's software does not!! Prices for 2nd hand models have gone rather stupid - especially on eBay - so dont pay silly money for one as they are old now and I personally dont feel they command the value people ask/get for them on eBay. Also beware of the different variants of this player (the name of them can be confusing) as there's a Creative Zen aswell as the Nomad Jukebox Zen and the Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra - also note the storage size differences 30GB, 40GB and 60GB!! STICK TO THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE - DONT BOTHER UPGRADING IT, IT CAUSES ISSUES!!! ONCE UPGRADED, YOU CANNOT REVERT TO THE OLD VERSION!!!!!Read full review
