The Ion Pics2SD scanner has proven to be just the job for scanning in my old negatives and film slides. It was easy to set up, and very quick to scan on to the SD card. I scanned in nearly a thousand images in a matter of hours over a couple of days, and have since had great fun going through this historical family picture archive, and sharing them with the rest of the family. I had tried a different couple of scanners before, which were less than useless, and sent them back straight away, so when this came along, I still had to be won over, which it did completely. The instructions to use are simple, and especially for the slides, it's been a revelation to see these pictures on the computer screen, and also on print outs, after having scanned them all on the Ion Pics2SD. The images with this review are just two which I scanned from slides, one from about 1969, and the other of my mum on honeymoon in 1958, you can see how well they have come out, and how vibrant the colours are.Read full review

its easy to set up (as long as you have a dvd drive) and does work on windows 10. its easy and very quick to use. there is basic colour and brightness adjustment (and you can obviously do more on a photo editor) - but basically you get what you pay for - there is no resolution selection and the quality of the photos is not great (this is from negatives, i have not used it for slides). i have a similar device by silvercrest but bought this one for a relative because the review rating was better- WRONG - the silvercrest (pretty much the same price) produces much sharper images and while the software appears identical, the silvercrest window can be maximised to fill the whole screen 9which the ION cannot) making it much easier to use. if you simply want to transfer lots of negatives to digital quickly ( and then maybe use a better device / service to scan the best ones ) this will do the trick but I recommend silvercrest instead (it also comes with a better negative loader, and a spare, and a negative cleaning 'brush' which the ION doesn'tRead full review

I bought this scanner to transfer all my old colour slides to my computer. I also scanned a few negatives, but did not use it for prints. I have read mixed reports about its use for prints. It was a little disconcerting that it came without any software, but it simply plugged into the USB port (from which it drew its power) and the computer recognized it as an extra storage device. Scanning the slides proved to be fast and easy. You slot them into the provided holder, 4 at a time, pass the holder through the scanner and click the button on the top for each slide. It takes only a couple of seconds to scan the slide, unlike what I read about flat bed scanners. I didn't bother with an SD card, the internal memory of the scanner holds about 15 slides at a time, then you transfer them to the computer. Almost the most tedious job was renaming the files on the computer. What I liked most about the scanner was the ease of use and the speed. It only took a few hours to scan my collection of 1000 slides. My scanner worked reliably and was simple to use. I had two reservations with it. There was no control over the way it did the scan, so I'm not sure the quality was as good as might be achieved with scanners that do some processing as they scan. Secondly, some of my slides, though in 2" by 2" mounts, are slightly larger than 35mm, and the scanner did not accommodate a larger film size. In fact even my 35mm slides were slightly cropped, and the larger slides were more significantly cropped. Mostly it didn't matter, but where the subject filled the slide some detail was lost. I have yet to locate a scanner of this type that doesn't crop the slides, so this complaint does not apply only to the Ion. These two reservations are why I give it only 4 stars instead of 5. In summary, I found it a simple, reliable scanner that scanned quickly, and in spite of the reservations listed I would certainly recommend it, especially for someone wanting to scan only 35mm slides or negatives.Read full review
I received what appeared to be a brand new item - there were no signs that it had ever been used. Very easy to set up and use and I'm very pleased with the quality of the digital images I've got from my old slides. I would recommend this scanner to anyone wanting to convert their slides or photos to digital images.

I bought this scanner because I have a mountain of photographs that I have accumulated over the years. I tried using my standard scanner but it seemed to take forever to do a small amount and I soon gave up.The ION Pics2SD is exactly what I needed, so easy easy to use and fast and I have already finished one box of photographs. That's the tip of the mountain cleared but a long way to go. I scan a large batch of photographs, connect to PC, sort and file the pictures into relevant folders and groups and transfer them to the external hard drive storage area on the computer, the Ion is ready to go again and I scan another batch. Because the ION is so easy to use I find that when I have a few minutes to spare at the end of a computer session I can easily scan 40 or 50 photographs and then switch it off ready for the next spare time, ideal. Now if i could just teach the wife to do it all life would be wonderful.Read full review
