Have had dyson vacuums for many years and my lasted purchase is the smallest in the range. However it is a very powerful machine the suction is fantastically good for its size,the only downside is l suppose is the dust bin is very small and more regular emptying is required but that is not really a problem as long as you keep your eye on it if you are using it because it can fill up quite quickly. The plastic type operation mechanism for emptying the bin does look very flimsy so because the bin is emptied more often you would l imagine have to be more careful on the way you press the button. Overall though does appear to be a excellent machine.

I currently have a Dyson cordless which is great for hard floors and is quick to use but it struggles on my rugs and cannot pick up very well on a low and medium pile rug (a deep pile is an absolute no no, I had to get rid of my deep pile). So I decided to get the Small Ball Animal as I have two dogs (short haired Dalamtian and medium haired Malamute) therefore I needed something more powerful for the rugs. It is smaller than your average vacuum and is manageable for carrying up and downstairs. The NEGATIVES to this Dyson are, 1- It feels flimsy and delicate, as you have to carry it from the waste bucket handle, also pushing the vacuum in use the handle moves and clicks as you move back & fourth, so it feels unsteady. 2- The cord holder is a tight fit. 3- It blocks up very easily, in fact it blocked up the first time I used it. So coping with pet hair is difficult for it. 4- It is an absolute pain to empty (all Dysons are!). I empty after every vacuum, which I don't mind as that comes with having a smaller vacuum. I have to use an old artist paint brush to remove the pet hair and dirt from the waste bucket as it does not just fall out. In the advert for this Dyson it shows rice being emptied from the waste bucket which would just fall out but pet hair, dust and dirt clump together. Dust and hair gets trapped between the bucket rubber seams so I have take it all apart every time I empty and use the brush to entice the dirt and hair out. This for me is the worse part of any Dyson (including my cordless) as you have to touch the dirt to empty. 5- The blower or fan for this Dyson or any upright is on the lower left side of the vacuum near the floor so on the hard floors it blows dust and pet hair along the floor as you vacuum, often blowing it under hard to reach areas such as the oven, the bed or the sofa, which is annoying. The POSITIVES are, 1- It is lightweight. 2- it is smaller than other corded uprights. 3- it can flip from rug to hard floor cleaning very well. 4- It can pick up off my rugs much better than the cordless I own. This is the reason for buying it. I can't comment on the pipe and tools as I don't use them. It is easier for me to use my cordless for jobs that require those tools. So overall, it does pick up from the rugs much better than my cordless and the dog hair is cleaned more efficiently, easy to store and carry, but it blows dirt along hard floors and is difficult to empty. So rather an expensive purchase for me for two rugs! However if you have carpeted floors then this vacuum is possibly more suitable in a small house or flat/apartment, although if I have to empty after two rugs then a full carpeted area may not take more dirt in the waste bucket, depending on whether you own pets of course! It has a better performance on rugs/carpets than hard floors due to it blowing dirt/dust under household furniture. I hope this review helps. Read full review

The lightness and efficiency of it. Think Dyson have made a big mistake changing from all uprights to cyclone type. Not as user friendly. Bought a V10 and cannot get on with it.

It’s refurbished but it came looking brand new! The suction is brilliant, although I hoover 1-2 times a day I can’t believe how much dirt is being picked up off of my carpets!
