i like the improvement in picture quality as it is 1280 dp upscaling but hate the menu interface as it is far to slow and takes an age to populate with programs :0( the remote is east to use tho as is the recorder itself but again it is let down by its library interface which just gives you the date time channel and duration when what u really needed was the program name so a simple task made complicated i decided to buy it because my current freeview unit had what i considered a poor picture would i buy another the simple answer would be no
Overall, I think the product is good. However, I find that the freeview signal frequently breaks up on many of the channels. Whenever the freeview signal is strengthened, it will come into its own and prove it's worth. So even when it records, the playback is only as good as the signal strength on the specific recorded channel. The freeview transmitter near Belfast is about 35 miles away from my house. Aaah well, but I would recommend it, and do not regret buying it. We also subscribe to Sky, and can compare the reception on identical channels. At this stage, I can not evaluate the product sufficiently to give it a higher rating than "good".
The Samsung DVD-SH895 is in theory a magnificent machine however in practice it has a few quirks, first of all there are at least 3 different models with differing model numbers some are worse than others,I own 3 of these machines all different models and this is the best of the three. The biggest problem is the remote, response time is VERY slow,if you hit the remote to fast to try and hurry it up the machine will lock up,on certain models the dvd player locks with your disc inside for no apparent reason, the dvd burner on one machine has given up and looks like it's burning, tells you it's done but wont finalise,on checking the disc I find there is nothing on it.Thats the down side now for the upside there are no other machines available in this price bracket that has all the functions that the Sammy has, if you can find an SH895 at a good price and you have a lot of patience go for it you wont be to disapointedRead full review
My brother in law bought this, he's a gadget type person but he's partially blind, he says this recorder is the best he's ever used/owned. He has it hooked up to a Samsung 42 inch TV, plug and played almost straight away, easy to set up, picture quality on recording is brilliant. He would recommend it to anyone.
