Very good lopper for tackling tough and thick branches as the ratchet is very effective and not difficult to operate. The only slight negative / compromise is that using a ratchet lopper of this power is slower to use on smaller branches and twigs due to the fact it is a very strong ratchet with gearing that necessitates opening the handles quite wide each 'gear'. It isn't light but not particularly heavy either, and the extending arms are good. I am delighted with the product so far, and expect it to last as it seems well engineered. If users need to cut lots of lesser tough branches as well as tough ones, it would be wise to own a non-ratchet lopper as well. My ratchet lopper [of slightly less weight and power and now not very sharp] which I have owned for 25+ years and was not expensive, fills the two requirements ideally as it is lighter and quicker to use. When that one eventually gives up I will buy an Anvil lopper without a ratchet to provide overall flexibility. The price of the new lopper ~ £22.50 ~ seems excellent value, so purchasing a non-ratchet lopper as well would still be a very modest outlay, as some cost only half the price of this one. That means you could have both types of lopper for around £35 which is less than the "top brand" products, which from my research are no better than the one I have just purchased. Happy Lopping! These pruners make light work of cutting through thick stem branches. They are not too heavy to use and the price is good. The only negative is they can’t be used in confined areas as the handles have to be opened quite far for the ratchet to commence working.

Nice quality especially considering the price. Copes with heavier branches much better than traditional loppers. The only downside is that the ratchet type gearing makes trimming smaller branches a little slower. Ideally for speed you should probably have a traditional set as well but, these will do it all.

Brilliant Lopper, exxxxtra reach when required and easy to use. Lockable so it does not spring open. One downside there needs to be enough space at either side of branch that is being cut. The cutting is easy and my 8 year old had a go and managed to cut a 30mm branch under supervision.

I have not used ratchet anvil loppers before and it takes getting used to. When the loppers are opened they have to be opened and closed 3 times before the they actually cut. Perhaps less so for thicker branches. However, they do cut well and easily. The telescopic function works well. They are on the heavy side but that was not a problem. In my opinion they are good value for the money and are especially good for cutting thick branches compared to normal loppers.
