PLEASE NOTE: I am talking about the old school, original G-DEC Junior, the one with the knobs and NO lcd screen. I researched these amps years ago when they were new, and several reviewers noticed that the screen would sometimes flicker and then revert to some default setting. The Junior has only knobs, which makes it simpler to operate. This is hands down the best practice/jamming tool ever!! I teach jazz band in a public high school, and have had a lot of fun using the loops. Now, to be painfully honest, these backing tracks are pretty cheesy. Most are only one chord, although there are a couple of 12-bar blues and a 50s-style rhythm change. The loops can play in any key and any tempo, and can really help a student get comfortable with improvisation. My keyboard and horn students love it! For guitarists, there's a whole lot more. Amp models, gain and master volume, and mix between the guitar and backing tracks makes it fun, and a set of effects lets players have a lot to mess with. Again, you don't get a lot of tweakability with these fx, but if you want to hear what a flanger or delay sounds like without buying a separate pedal it works fine. I have scored a half dozen or so of these GREAT pieces on ebay in the past few months. I keep one in my living room, one in my rehearsal studio, and two in my lesson booth. The new generation gdecs have a second guitar input in the back, my Juniors don't have that cool feature. Whatever instrument you play, if you think you could get better by having a full-time backing band available to you (always in tune and in tempo!), then this is a GREAT educational tool to have. If you're already so good you don't need to practice, then this guy will give you a TON of laughs, just turn it on and start shredding! Highest recommendation!Read full review
The amplifier I purchased is the G-DEC Junior. This is not the G-DEC 15 as shown with the global control and the dual inputs on the left front. The Junior is all knobs, intuitive, no complexities of any kind. Unlike the other amps in the G-DEC line, the Junior doesn't have an ability to change any of the amp or effect parameters, record and overdub but that's fine for the actual purpose of this cool little amp, which is to have fun while learning to play and learn to play guitar. The tempo is easily adjusted as are all the features. I mostly use this amp for teaching but I also enjoy just jamming with the wide enough variety of settings and amp and effects models. Its way worth finding one of these amps for one's own use but they make far-out gifts to younger or newer players who are ready to get serious and learn to play in Time! There's a lot of experience that went into these G-DEC series amps and they seem to me to be the biggest 'Bang for the Buck' amps I have seen from Fender. They are inexpensive and very versatile. I've owned several of the Fender G-DEC series amps and really, they are a great tool. I would in all ways recommend the G-DEC Junior to any player desiring to hone their skills while having a lotta fun! More advanced players will want to go for the G-DEC Fifteen or G-DEC Thirty. If the operation manuals are not included with your G-DEC purchase fret not! Fender has all that and way more online and there are many web sites devoted to these cool little amps. Get a couple! I did!Read full review
I bought this G-DEC Junior as a project, because it amp was apparently damaged in shipping. I bought just the chassis, (electronics), no cabinet or speakers. To test it out, I attached an 8" (8ohm) speaker and it worked AOK. The drum/rhythm feature is pretty cool as you can dial in a Key and Style and jam over the backing music. If you're looking for some accompaniment to test out some ideas, it's a helpful feature. The guitar amp sounds are decent for a reasonable price. similar amps to compare are: Roland Micro Cube, Vox DA-5
I love this amp! Not only does it sound great as just an amp, but the effects and backing tracks are great! This amp really helps you hone your chops without having to practice with a band!

aside from my own inability to easily work tech stuff, this is the best practice tool yet. for practice, at home, in my music room, the sound and features this little amp provide are great. i am far from being a kid, but, i feel something like this would be an invaluable teaching aide for a beginning, or intermediate guitarist. sure beats the click, click of a metronome. and the "band" doesn't get mad or tired while you are trying to figure out your guitar part.
