In the past I have used a 30 year-old drill bit sharpener which is fixed to the work bench next to the bench grinder, it works well enough, but can be a bit hit and miss if you don't know what you are doing...plus there are health and safety concerns if you don't use a mask and goggles. The instructions supplied are a but vague but the machine is quite forgiving and takes all of the guess-work out. After selecting three different sizes of bit I soon had them sharpened, the angle of pitch looked spot on. This was confirmed when I set up some aluminium and mild steel in my drill press and soon uniform corkscrews of swarf were effortlessly drilled out of both materials. Any budding engineer should note that a pilot hole should be drilled first if a larger hole is needed and a good PTFE drill bit lubricant should be used (WD 40 produce one) to keep the bit cool when in use. A word of warning, drill bit sharpening can be addictive.Read full review

The stone is to soft, little to no pressure grooved the stone on small diameter drills, would use on drills 5mm and above but very gently. It will NOT re profile drills and just about manages to touch up blunt drills. Struggles with cobalt. I think I managed 4 drills before stone was too marked as to sharpen correctly.

Excellent. Very useful in the workshop. Covers a wide range of drill sizes and very easy to use. Is very compact and takes up no space at all. Easy to store.

It does sharpen drill bits but can leave a bare on the edge of the bit and you have to sharpen the bits in two stages (both sides) a bench grinder does the job better if you have one and know what you are doing, the angle is a little on the shallow side and could be better.

This drill sharpener is nice and weighty and so stays in place when using. It is of good quality and sharpen’s extremely well. A good asset at a great price 👍.
