This Canon LEGRIA HF R16 camcorder was bought as a replacement for a Sony DCR PC330E mini DV camcorder which had given great service and was only replaced due to an interface incompatibility issue between my new laptop and the camcorder. The Canon is certainly compact and light which makes it a pleasure to take out rather than something you feel you're lugging around in the hope of getting a few minutes good footage. It is very quick to start up so the problem of missing the action you're trying to capture is minimised considerably. A very well designed layout means all controls fall neatly to hand (or finger!) and all buttons and switches feel well manufactured using quality materials. The clarity of the screen easily copes in bright sunlight conditions and means that you can actually frame what you want to rather than have to guess at what you're shooting. The only down side I have found is that the auto-stabilisation struggles when you use anything over half the available zoom, and on full zoom you need a very steady hand indeed. Would I buy another one, or would I recommend one to a friend... yes, most certainly. At today's price this is a very good value camcorder, when it was first released it was a bit expensive but at it's current price it is the best specified and best made camcorder in this market segment.
