I bought this item purely to charge some 9v batteries I have. Looking at the manual it takes the best part of a day to charge, which isn’t great, but at least they would be charged. Some 30hrs later the red led is still lit. As I’d expected it to either change to green like my other chargers or self extinguish, I checked the uniross website. Though you’ll see terms referring to “Smart Power” all over their website. It seems this chargers led’s will glow a steady red for as long as a battery is in situ. Irrelevant of its charge level. Call me stupid, but I had presumed one of the principle reasons of rechargeable batteries, was to save energy, not waste it. So it appears Uniross are not that “Smart” after all. I purchased a 9v rechargeable Uniross battery only to find that it would not charge on my existing 9v battery charger. So I purchased this Uniross battery charger but discovered that it does not indicate when the 9v battery is fully charged. So, I have a battery that I can't charge on my existing charger (which does indicate when other manufacturer's batteries are fully charged) and a battery that I have no idea whether it is charged or not. I cannot understand what is the use of a battery charger which does not indicate if the battery is fully charged. I have since returned the charger to the supplier and put the Uniross battery in the bin.

A previous model of charger I had switched off automatically when the batteries were charged; which was very useful. With this one there is no automatic switch off. The different charging times for the various types and capacities of rechargeable batteries are set out in the instructions, but who keeps the instructions or indeed can be bothered to find them and work out the correct charging time? Had I realised this deficiency before purchase I would not have bought it.
