I had a couple of laptops which were not worth repairing so I broke them down and took out the DVD rw drives . I then purchased this enclosure to try. I had to watch a video on YouTube how to remove the fascia panel off the DVD drive properly so I can then reattach the enclosures front panel . Once that was done it was simply a matter of putting the drive in the enclosure , putting the two little screws in the back and that was it. It's all worked so well that I purchased another for the other DVD drive .

Works well with a second hand HP dvd laptop drive I got here on Ebay for less than £5 so with this in all cost around £11.00 for a external disk drive and this one is in my opinion the better way to do it as you end up with a user serviceable disk drive that can be replaced without wasting the outer case if needed. Not saying that the external drives you can buy are bad, just had bad experience with them in the past so nice to be able to make one myself!

I used this with an used dvd drive and had it assembled and working after 10 minutes. The faceplate fitted on drive easy, circuit board slots into the drive and the case clips together quite easily after being sure it was in right position. The case does feel a bit flimsy and cheap at first but when assembled feels solid and works great.
