Simple inexpensive and takes up very little room. Last year I spread a fertiliser/weedkiller by hand but ended up with a lot of blackened scorched patches as it is very difficult or impossible to spread it evenly enough. We only have a small garden and I did not want to have to store the type of spreader you push like a mower to only use once or twice a year. This takes up a lot less room and costs a good deal less. I used Wilko fertiliser/weedkiller and it spread it just fine and really evenly. I oiled it first but I am not sure that is necessary as I washed it out after doing the front garden and did the back a couple of days later without lubricating. I saw reviews saying it jammed but other people said oil it to stop that happening. Mine worked jus fine and seems like it should last for years.Read full review

After a recommendation from a gardening site I bought this item at the cheapest I could as the price varies wildly on Amazon. A couple of reviewers stated that it did not work well and would jam when trying to spread different compounds. I only used fertiliser granules on their own but the spreader was too stiff and jammed. It required prising the gearing mechanism open and spraying with a teflon spray to ease the friction. Once I had done this the spreader mechanism worked perfectly. The hopper does not hold much and requires refilling very often. It has a large area of cover but does not appear to give a reasonable quantity per square metre as per the recommendation on the fertiliser. In addition it has the unfortunate ability, like all the spreaders I have tried, to simply drop excess amounts in places which will end up burning and killing the grass. Works but only if used very carefully with a lot of patience.Read full review

We wanted to reseed an area of lawn. Having previously done this by hand and had irregular distribution, this is a great improvement. It works well with lawn seed and I am sure will work well with fertiliser, etc. We wanted to distribute clover on one area of the garden. It was not so good for that as the seeds are very small and do not distribute evenly. Altogether a good and economical purchase!

This bit of kit could have been so much better if it had simple good fitting Delrin type bearings so it turns accurately & easily . I had to end up using it half g=filed for any thing and try to keep it tilted backwards towards me so that the contents of the hopper would always fall into the distribution slot . Having it parrallel withtr e ground saw it jam /clog time after time. A graphite aerosol spray with a long thing tube helped things free up a lot . I drilled a tiny hole in the body so I could pop the spray tube in and give it a good dosing on bearing parts and the gear wheels . That made a treemendous difference in effort and action to operate it . One thing more , you'll need to wash ( let it soak for a few minutes before shaking things about the spreader out in clean soap free hand hot water each time you use it and let it dry off for three or four days in a warm airing cupboard then give it the graphie spray treatment again so it has time to disperse the graphite on the gears and bearing surfaces then dry the light oils that carried it out the spray can . I found that the granular fertilizer & grass seed had produced a fine dust that gummed things up especially the volume of contents control / slider ... washing it , drying it & applying the graphite cured the problemRead full review

It treated my large front garden in 10 minutes. I found the extended arm support a great idea. If I had used my push spreader it would have left me out of breath. I give it five stars and already recommended it to other people. Great Value.
