Having an 1980 top end system, which includes a Sansui AU 20000 and Kef reference speakers, I long ago realised that the end sound was not dependent on just one component. I have used a Denon DCD 1500 II for many years with this set up and the sound quality rivals, if not exceeds vinyl played on my Lin Sondek. Recently, I bought a new "quality" mid price cd player. Frankly, the build and sound were mediocre at best, and in no way approached the Denon. I resolved to buy a second hand Denon 1500II, but found they were like hens teeth, so went for its sibling, the 910. This is a similarly well built and long lasting piece of kit. Yes, it does not come quite up to the 1500, but is a very useful understudy. As with all old CD players, you do need to be aware that they are old ladies, and will need a little tlc from time to time. Lasers wear out, other parts become worn. I have access to a first class audio repair shop, which knows intimately how these machines work. So, if buying, be prepared for them requiring attention. All in all, a nice machine for my set up. Others will, I am sure disagree. Sweet sound is in the ear of the beholder!Read full review

When my old Technic's CD player gave up the ghost I did quite a bit of research for my next purchase. Came up with this one Denon DCD 910. Never looked back, I now have 2 of these, just in case one of them fails, could bare to be without it. Crystal clear sound. Excellent machine.
