I wanted the best binocular available. My last binocular was the superb Leica Ultravid HD 8x50 which were pretty much everything you could expect from a top binocular ( perhaps except for the weight which precipitated the change). The Victory 8 x 42 are better! Before purchasing these around a year ago I researched and tried virtually everything worth considering ( Swarovski,Leica and Kowa to name but a few). I was actually attracted to another Leica or Swarovision, but followed my clinical judgement and was delighted. The SFs have the widest field of view, appear to me to have the greatest depth of field, are superbly balanced and feel lighter than the competition, have the closest focusing distance and to me have a sharper image. A superb large smooth focussing wheel in the best possible position. Downsides: cosmetic only- I would have preferred stouter/ thicker eye cups and rain guard ( like Leica); and a more 'rubberised' feel to the armouring ( again, like Leica)- but "hey ho"... In a word- superb! And in case your wondering- I have a Swarovski spotting scope, which I also think ( for me ) is the best there is!Read full review
