Having played Latin percussion for over 50 years I have been tuning drums by ear for years. I never really thought I needed a tuner when I was younger, but being older has helped open up to different ideas. I was really surprised when I put the DrumDial on my heads and found out just how irregular the head tension was going around the drums before adjustment. This is an excellent tool to help keep your drums from fighting themselves with high and low head pressures on the same head. It takes awhile to do it, and it really helps to take off the heads and just start from scratch, but it is well worth it and so easy with the DrumDial. Just be patient and keep going around. Your ears will love it, lol.

I am a musician but not a percussionist. This tool really speeds up the process of refining the tuning of drums in band camp or guest conducting situations.

For 24 years I have played drums and for 24 years I have hated tuning them and never felt like I nailed it. This device is magical. It feels solid and like something you will have forever if you take care of it, so the cost is not much in drum dollars. It's a simple but game-changing invention which couldn't be easier to grasp after a quick look at the basic instructions. It made the beat-up heads on my cheap travel kit sound great beyond all expectation on the first go-round. I'll never tune a drum without it again. I can't fathom anyone being so naturally accurate at tuning by feel that this wouldn't be a must for their tool kit. This is all honest passion by the way, I received nothing for this review.

I saw the advertising, and read the reviews, and thought there was no way that this could do what it claimed to do. It does. It does it well. I was with a band that had a kit in the practice area that sounded horrible. Brought this in, and in less than 10 minutes adjusted both top & bottom heads on the entire kit and they sounded much better. Used them on my kit, which I thought sounded pretty good, and this took it to as level I didn't even know drums were capable of. It has become an indispensable part of my gear, and I can't even imagine trying to tune a set of drums without it.

I already have one but just ordered another one for a Christmas present. I have total confidence in these things. I myself use mine for keeping my banjo head at proper tension to get the most sound out of it. It really does take the thud out & puts the clear crisp clarity sound back in a banjo. If you haven’t got one then you won’t be sorry if you buy one. I personally try to keep the tension at or about 90-91 on my banjos. This dial takes all the guess work out.
