This is a replacement for the original plug. The plastic sealing washer was deteriorating and it was cheaper to buy the whole thing than chase around for a new washer. Works OK but doesn't seal the plug hole for very long - and the original didn't either!

These waste plug strainers are made from very thin metal with centre posts which are a gilt type colour and not the same as the strainer itself. They come flat packed and while not difficult to put together they are so flimsy that you risk bending the strainer. The strainer bowl is shallow and definitely cannot be described as premium stainless steel. I will not be using them but as return postage will be incurred I will not return them.

We did have one of these previously in our flat when we moved in but it wasn’t looking the best and so I found this quickly as a replacement. Contrary to one of the other reviews on here, it does have a rubber disk underneath the strainer so if you push the product into the plug it will hold the water in the basin, and the ball bearing at the bottom allows you to pull it out so it rests above the plug and strains the water away. Handy little thing to have, and like I said earlier, a great value replacement for the old one we had. Much nicer having a clean kitchen strainer than a grimy dirty one! Highly recommend for anyone in need of a quick and hygienic fix for their kitchen!
