I bought this second hand as a repalcement for one lost / stolen in the early 2000s. I wanted it because I remember the ease of use. The night vision is a simple switch and gives a very good picture. The better picture quality in most lighting conditions must be because of the seemingly larger lense and the wider Hi-8 tape. I find mini-DV requires bright lighting otherwise the auto-focus fails. It connects easily with USB-2, fire-wire and also composite or S-video. It can be used to record from TV or VCR also, and connects to the AV input on the TV. The menus is also easier than these mini-DV models allowing fairly quick changes to functional modes. It is not heavy and allows good grip and reach of the recording / pause buttons etc.. The zoom is adequate for normal casual videos. Why they discontinued this range I can't understand since they are good models ? I already recommend it when people see me with it outside. This model is used for both analogue and digital hard copying. The microphone is quite good also. These small video / cameras are for people with smaller hands and faces - the TVR range is a man-size object. I have only the basic battery and if fully charged has allowed full 60 minute recording via the view-finder ( not with the screen opened-out ) with switching on-off perhaps 20 times ( but one has to wait to watch the recording when the mains supply is available ). The only thing is the 16 bit audio which caused reverberations during video capture on my computer. 12 bit is good enough. I would like the range brought back and without any alterations, since for me it is a normal item ( newer cameras designs and high tech are a fallacy since home users generally will not require more than on this range ). The software called Image Mixer is not difficult to use but is very limited and for making home movies only - one is better off buying something else like e.g Nero.Read full review
