I purchased my Kef Kit 100 DVD home cinema system in the Christmas sales 2007 for £299 at Currys. I don't think that the store manager knew what he was doing when he mark down the sales ticket from £699 to £299 but I snapped up the last remaining box system on the shelve and was very happy. I system is still for sale on the internet for anything from £500 to £999 so to buy it for £299 was great and I'm suprised that more people aren't picking them up off Ebay for under £400. HD DVD and upscaling to 1080i/p is all anyone talks about these days but in my honest opinion the picture from the Kef is excellent when you use some component leads (about £40 from Currys) instead of the scart lead which is supplied. I can't see the point in buying a cheaper flashy home cinema system with tons of speakers and an HDMI socket when the quality of the Kef is this good without the speakers and higher upscaling. The sound quality is amazing and it beats having 5 speakers placed around your living room. It may not be as good as a good quality proper 5.1 surround sound system (you'll need to pay upwards of £500 for one of those) but I don't really care about having the sound come from behind me when the sound from the front two speakers is as good as with the Kef. The system isn't too bassy which is what alot of cheaper systems seem to add to make their product seem better than it actually is. If you don't own an expensive hifi or seperates system already then you could use the Kef has your hifi as well becuase you can buy an Ipod docking station for the unit. The sound quality is certainly better than anything a mirco or mini hifi system could produce. The Set up is very easy and as long as you use either wall brackets or speaker stands then you'll be more than happy with this system. I have my speakers on the floor at the moment and its still fine but I intend to buy some stands shortly. Remember that only a couple of years ago people were quite happy to pay £1200 for the Kef system and even What Hifi gave it 5 stars at that price. It is extremely unlikely that you will be able to beat this system for under £400/500 (if you can find it on Ebay or the Web for this price) so Grab yourself this understated bargain and you'll be very very happy.Read full review
Great system.

Surround-sound speaker systems are fantastic. Having sound all around as you watch a DVD really adds to the experience. Anyone who has watched Master & Commander or Return of the King on a decent surround-sound system will know how much decent audio can add to the movie-watching event. But there's a problem - wires. If you've got wooden floors, an unconvinced partner or just don't fancy wires trailing around your lounge then what can you do to get great sound? Enter KEF Audio with their gorgeous KEF instant theatre (KIT) - a system that promises surround-sound from only two speakers. Yes, this DVD system offers 5.1 digital surround sound from two front speakers and a subwoofer. So how do they do it and how does it sound? Well, here's the science bit. The two speakers use what KEF call "NXT® flat panel technology". Essentially what this does is recreate the true surround-sound effect by "beaming" the sound off walls. Simply angle the speakers inward and the side-panels do their job. This is all good in theory of course, but thankfully the practice is even better - these speakers sound fabulous. The ominous clank of the AT-ATs in The Empire Strikes Back was fully realised by the powerful woofer, while dialogue remained audible and distinctive above the Hoth battle sounds. We tried some CDs too, which were similarly impressive, if a little bass-heavy in places. A quick fiddle in the settings sorted this out though. As well as sounding good, the system looks good too. The picture from the DVD player is crisp and clean and looks good on any half-decent TV. The player itself is pleasingly heavy and the whole package has a classy feeling. And don't think all this audio/visual joy is hard to set up. Simply plug in some obvious leads and insert a DVD or CD and away you go. You will need to spend a few minutes positioning the speakers to get the proper surround effects though, and the optional speaker stands are highly recommended both for sound and aesthetic reasons. Overall the KEF Kit 100 is a mightily impressive piece of kit. While the surround sound isn't quite as good as a wired set-up, the looks and convenience of having only two speakers more than outweigh this. Easy to set up and offering classy sound and vision, the KEF Kit 100 comes highly recommended.Read full review
I now have two of these KEF Kit 100 systems, the second one in my bedroom. The bass is excellent from the sub which also houses the amplification for all speakers. It is easy to wire in an ipod to the main disc unit and listen to music. I have had a couple of parties when the Kit 100 was up full all night and no ill effects to the speakers etc. I'm not sure about the effectiveness of the surround sound from the front speakers, I've never really got that working properly, that maybe because of my room position, but the sound is really good nevertheless.
Since buying my Kit100 I have been replaying some of my DVD's and been amazed at the sound quality, hearing things I had not experienced before. My CD collection has been given a fresh workout wth the same fantastic pure clear sound and at the price I paid on e-bay of £399.00 the biggest steal of all time!
