I wanted to get into photography but don't want to invest a lot of money yet. This is a perfect fit for my Nikon D3100. The bundled zoom lens which came with the camera does not have the aperture large enough for me to explore different effects. This lens is extremely lightweight that I can carry it around easily. In fact I stopped using the much bigger zoom lens at all. Also tried shooting video with this lens, the image looks very sharp and I can play with the apertures to get effects that I never knew could with video. High recommended for those who are new to photography with limited budget.
