This is a very handy device for capturing and playing back audio from a computer. It isn't going to compete with audiophile units but, having said that, for casual listening the quality is really very good and at a fraction of the price. You have to actually be listening to the music to notice the difference. It is far better than my in-built audio and cheaper than other, similar units that I could find. Although the capture is only at 48kHz, the full 20kHz+ bandwidth is achieved. I use the Linux Debian operating system and I just plugged this in and it worked. It is listed in Audacity by the generic name, USB Audio CODEC. The feature that differentiates this device from the other similar Behringer computer interfaces is the phono amplifier. It is also the weakest feature. It works but the gain is a bit low and that means a bit more noise. So, if you don't need the phono equalisation and/or the TOSLINK output is useful to you, go for the UCA202 instead. I didn't try the headphone output.Read full review

i purchased this item to make digital recordings of meetings in which I am involved. for record keeping purposes. I used for 1st time last week with a top table of 5 speakers and an audience of over 60 folk. Analogue output from mixer recorded, via the U - Phono on to a MacBook Pro. One minor niggle; the Mac screen shows a Quicktime window which displays audio activity & level. There are times on quiet speech when no modulation is visible! Has it stopped working is the emotional response very acceptable quality for my purposes. I intend to use the Phono RIAA facility to extract audio from my dormant LP collection. So far very pleased with the Behringer U-Phono..

Due to Windows mis-configuring the driver(s) it replaces the right channel with a duplicate of the left channel so digitised stereo recordings sound in mono. These are the steps for configuring Windows Vista for recording from a Behringer UCA 202. The steps for other USB sound cards on both Vista and Windows 7 & 10 are likely to be similar. I would recommend following this list carefully step-by-step, including the "optional" steps. To configure Recording using the Behringer UCA 202 USB: * Start button Control Panel * (Control Panel Home not Classic View) Click on "Hardware and Sound" * Click on "Sound" * Click on the "Recording" tab * Click on "USB Adio Codec" (so that it is highlighted) * Click the "Properties" button * (Optional) Type "UCA 202 Line Input" in the text box * (Optional) Click the "Change Icon" button, select the icon that looks like Line-in connectors and click "OK" * Ensure that "Use this device (enable)" is selected at the bottom * Click the "Apply" button * Click on the "Advanced" tab * In the "default format" button (drop-down list) select "2 channels 16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" * Ensure that the two "exclusive mode" options are selected * Click the "Apply" button * Click on the "Levels" tab, set the slider to 100 and click the "OK" button * Click the "OK" button To configure Playback using the Behringer UCA 202 USB: * Start button Control Panel * (Control Panel Home not Classic View) Click on "Hardware and Sound" * Click on "Sound" * Ensure that the "Playback" tab is selected * Click on "USB Adio Codec" (so that it is highlighted) * Click the "Properties" button * (Optional) Type "UCA 202 Line Output" in the text box * (Optional) Click the "Change Icon" button, select the icon that looks like Line-out connectors and click "OK" * Ensure that "Use this device (enable)" is selected at the bottom * Click the "Apply" button * Click on the "Levels" tab and set the level to 100 * Click on the "Balance" button and ensure that both "L" and "R" are set to 100 * Ensure that the "speaker" icon does not have a "red circle with diagonal line" on it (that symbol means that output is muted) * Select the "Enhancements" tab * Select "Disable All Enhancement" and click the "Apply" button (for recording purposes it is best to aim for "accuracy" over "enhancement") * Select the "Advanced" tab * Select "16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" * Ensure that the two "exclusive mode" options are selected * Click the "Apply" button (only available if you have made changes) * Click the "OK" button * Click the "OK" buttonRead full review

All the reviews so far have been fair but an on going problem is when plugged into your laptop it immediately changes the settings from stereo to mono, I followed all the steps posted by Mr Bradley but when I double checked the settings it reverted back to mono. I decided to investigate further and that it had nothing to do with Audacity. I checked my settings without the unit plugged in, it was in stereo but it changed to mono when plugged in, I can only assume it's a driver problem as reported on many forums. I got round it by using my old XP PC which is 15 years old, no trouble there had it up n running in ten minutes. Had Berhringer did thorough testing they would have been aware before it was marketed, looks like I'll be using my XP PC for a while....

Looks like they work with serato vinyl 2. 5 and Mixxx but need to do the hack described on Mixxx forum + download ASIO4ALL driver (then select this API in deck Input/output) Sound quality seems okay with my setup and I still have a bit of software tweaking to improve sound. Sweet!
