If one wants to make "hand-made" ice cream than this is for you! For my first attempt I made an ice cream which included egg yolks. Because of this ingredient the total time, including wait time, took almost 24hours.Start to finish. One of the reasons, you can only make 5-6 ounces at a time. The process of mixing and scraping can quickly get old, but the end result was satisfying. My next attempt, a day later, was the chocolate ice cream from their recipe book. After freezing the unit, as required, my second attempt took 4 hours start to finish. Reason, capacity, the recipe calls for 24 ounces of ingredients and as I stated, the Zoku only handles 5 ounces each time. It is far better than store bought, but the easiest way to use the Zoku is to use 1/3 as much ingredients for a faster turn around. Read full review

My husband wanted a bowl that kept his Bluebell ice cream really cold and firm until he got to the last bite. This bowl works perfectly for that purpose! We didn't buy to make ice cream. We just wanted nice, cold, firm ice cream. It's perfect for that. I haven't really tried to make ice cream in it. I think that might be more trouble than it's worth.
