Chunky gully drain cover grate
My previous gully grate had perished – probably decades old – and this was a welcome upgrade from the plastic ones sold at B&Q or Homebase. It is quite sturdy and won't break if something small but heavy falls on it, but of course after only 2 weeks in place there are already flecks of rust showing. Cast iron 6" drain cover
Having searched all the building supply company's for a cast iron cover to no avail I looked on line and found this one straight away and with free postage. All the local suppliers could offer were plastic. Totally useless in a torrential downpour as they just floated away and let All the leaves and debris go into the drain blocking it even more. As much use as a chocolate teapot. Very clean and well finished.
The gully is strong and made out of cast iron. With free P&P is is good value for money. The finished casting is very clean and well finished. It is supplied as cast, so I gave it two coats of red oxide primer and two coats of gloss black, so that should hold any rusting for many years. Good that manufacturing crafts are still alive and well in Britain..

It will last forever
Thought I’d buy the cast iron grate and it hasn’t disappointed very solid nice rounded edges and fitted perfectly. I chose the cast iron rather than plastic as the drain is in an open yard and will be walked on. It will last forever.
