Barbra Streisand is one of the all time greats and this album shows her singing some great old broadway theatre songs. The rousing "something's coming" just sends shivers down my spine the anticipation, the excitemnt, pure magic; her renditions from Porgy and Bess are tremendous you can feel the charectures you can almost see them. The wonders of Streisand is in her ability to make you feel, make you cry and oh can she make you laugh, in the song "Pretty Woman / Ladies that lunch" tells the story of the group of women who all they have to do with their day is worry about themselves and of course lunch! A great song. The big bonus with this CD is the booklet has all the words - so housework goes a lot easier when you're dancing and singing arouund the house.
this album is very special cause of its arrangement, production and performance. Barbara streisand is at her best, well connected to the content of the songs and to the melodie lines.
An admirable accomplishment as always. Technically superb yet deceptively simply delivered making these classic standards feel as fresh as the day the pod went pop!
