Glad to see that this kit is still available in Airfix’s current roster. Originally launched in 1960, and repackaged several times, this kit is demanding in todays market due to it age as regards finesse and correctness around the base of the funnels. However the scale 1/600 makes this quite a large and acceptable display replica with its 131 parts. When the kit is complete the scope and beauty of H.M.S. Hood really shows itself, and the lines of this battle cruise replica are entirely acceptable and eye catching to everyone. The price range of 16 - 19.00 pounds is entirely the motivation to go out and purchase one. True other kits are perhaps more truer to the Hood, but it is nearly 60 years old and still extremely well received and liked by all model makers. Finally yes it does require a little extra work, but hey that’s what modelling is all about is it not? Certainly happy to reacquaint myself with Britains most beautiful flagship and world notable.Read full review

This is the Airfix 1:600 scale Battlecruiser HMS Hood. ( tooling dates from 1960 ) It's an older kit, which shows the Hood prior to her last refit in 1939 , from about 1931 . While not up to modern standards for detail, when completed she's a handsome model none the less. If you fit Photo Etched parts she would look much better. I warn you that you will have a bit of trouble with the fit of some parts, notably the rear of the boat deck didn't want to sit flush, as the walls from quarter deck weren't quite tall enough, nothing major though. I also point out that the newer kit art boxes are lovely , but the kit plastic contents still date from 1960 - I finally point out that the Kit Box Art that the other reviewer objects to , shows clearly , that the Model is from 1931 - the way to tell if HMS Hood is 1941 era , is easy , first the secondary guns were removed in 1939 and those areas plated over - with modern Twin 4 inch AA guns added above them , and above all , the B Turret ( second one to front of ship ) would have a Rocket UP mounting on the Turret roof - if you want a modern , new tool 1941 HMS Hood , buy either the Trumpeter 1/350 or 1/200 scale kits , would be my advice .Read full review

Box cover depicts HMS Hood in her modified and last state before her loss in World War Two. However inside, box contained original design parts of when she was built. Unable to make model, as wrong version enclosed.
