This Hamilton Beach 49316 coffee maker made great coffee right from the start. No plastic smell or taste. It uses #4 cone filters, so I use about 25% less coffee that with the Basket type. The water gauge and the on/off switch are on the right side and can only be viewed from the front and right side. It's a simple pot and it costs twice as much as the cheap Mr. Coffee makers with the basket, but it was worth the extra cost to me to get the Cone style pot.

First; Have to buy special Cone shaped filters, can't use filters like MOST Coffee Makers use: Round, flat bottom. Don't even get a Sample filter Second: No programmable timer to turn on at a certain time. Thirdly: No Automatic OFF, after a certain time; it's either OFF or On. Buyer Beware, don't do as I did .. Oh well....***T Happens....Read ALL the material about the product BEFORE buying.

Great product at a very reasonable price. Our last coffee maker, also a Hamilton Beach. Worked very well and made good coffee, but the pot tended to dribble when pouring and the lid hinge broke almost immediately. This new coffee maker does not seem to have these problems. The only down-side is that it must be manually turned off, because this model has no timer. However, the lack of a timer is probably the main reason the cost is so reasonable. Highly recommend this item.

Not fancy, no bells and whistles but it makes GREAT COFFEE, which is the point of a coffee maker - yes? Hope they never stop making this because I’ve I’ve tried other and always go back to this one. Fast, easy to clean, and a superior cup of joe.
