The two earlier 80s attempts at Captain America movies, 'Sentinel Of Liberty' and 'Death Too Soon', were drivel. Were they TV movies? Anyone know? Even as TV movies they are poor. THIS however is much better. Much derided as being cheesy and slow, it actually has good some characters. The Red Skull's origin story is quite moving, Cap's adjustment to the 20th Century is well handled. Cynical folks might mock the inclusion of the President of the USA as a co-star, but Ronny Cox handles the role well enough. The final 'battle' is slightly anti-climatic, but not terrible. This is a very average movie, but it's not the disaster it is painted as. In fact I class it as a guilty pleasure. I've actually watched it many more times than the new Cap movies, which are excellent and much better films, but this one still has it's charms. Technically, sound and picture quality is typical for 80s video tape. This DVD is not much better quality than my old VHS. However, because I like the film, if it was re-mastered for Blu-ray, I'd buy it.Read full review
