The software for the Piano Maestro Learning System is downloaded from their website with a user name and password that is included with the device. It has a complete set of many, many musical pieces pre-installed. Additional pieces can be converted into MIDI files from MP4's and added to the already extensive collection. The main component of the Piano Maestro Learning System is the lighting strip, which plugs directly into your existing computer, laptop or tablet, and uses the installed software to light the strip to the corresponding keys to be played in the song that you're learning. When I first purchased the Piano Maestro Learning System, I was concerned that only four octaves were covered, but this limitation was overcome by the device and its software, so that the light strip can be moved to the upper, center or lower octaves on the piano or keyboard to learn those parts that are outside of the mid range of the piano. The speed of the song can be slowed down from the original time signature, to assist beginners in learning a musical piece, and users can select to loop the more challenging parts of a particular song to practice them over and over until mastery is achieved and memorized. The Piano Maestro Learning System had me working through the Lassan Movement of the Hungarian Rhapsody #2 within a week's time. While I'm not yet playing as well as Van Cliburn, using this device alongside my written sheet music and my piano instructor's guidance cut the time of learning greatly. My piano tutor charges $50 per hour, and using the Piano Maestro Learning System for a week was like having a tutor in my own home, which paid for itself within three hours of use. I highly recommened it.Read full review
