I wondered whether battery trimmers would be up to th job. These clippers are excellently made, light and manoeuvrable because no power lead. They are also quiet and vibration free. In fact, they are absolutely fine for keeping a reasonably well maintained hedge in good shape and cut through thick twigs etc. One battery charge cut both sides and the top of my hedge which is approximately 25 long. I bought a spare battery off eBay but rarely have to use it.

The Makita 14.4v Li is both lightweight and charges quite fast. Will last about 15mins heavy continuous use before it needs a recharge. Having an battery extra as a spare is necessary for larger gardens.

Battery arrived on time and I immediately put it on charge as directed. The battery fitted perfectly into the Makita charger and charged no problem. Fitted the battery to the drill and it appears to work well. It remains to be seen how long the charge will last but so far so good!
