I bought this EJ200 Artist as a practice instrument, to minimize the wear on my brand-name SJ-200. I am very impressed with the volume of sound that this instrument produces acoustically. It is about as powerful as the brand-name super-jumbo, but balanced more toward the treble. The tone quality is very nice in the treble range and somewhat stiff in bass. (Of course, it's nowhere near comparable to the mellow tone of the SJ.) The Artist model is the basic no-frills EJ200. Doesn't have the fancy decorative touches: simple bridge (not moustache), plain back (not bookmatched), simple dot markers on neck (not crowns). Also, no electronics. For me, that's perfect. I wasn't looking for a showy guitar, only a solid pure-acoustic instrument. The guitar required a small amount of setup work to play and sound its best: Replaced the extra-light phosphor-bronze strings (11-52) with regular light 80/20 bronze (12-54) strings, to get more acoustic volume. (I don't like the look of the pinkish color of phosphor bronze on a blonde guitar, anyway.) Filed down the nut slots to make the action easier. Relaxed the truss rod to get the right amount of relief. (The supplier sent a flyer that suggested adjusting for a perfectly straight neck, and that's how they set it up. That is just plain wrong, and I ignored it.) Eased the sharp edges at the ends of a few frets with a file. (Note that I had to do a couple of the same things to the SJ, which was priced at least 10 times higher. So, this is no big deal.) Overall evaluation: I got exactly what I needed for most of my choir activities at a good price. This is a lot of guitar for the money.Read full review

152.00 for this Epiphone ej-200 artist in Mint condition. It has 'USED" stamped on the back of the headstock because of some unnoticed cosmetic blemishes. It sounds and plays excellent, and feels great in my hands. "Big resonance" is the word that comes to mind when I play it and it stays in tune. I would love to compare this to the gibson to see the difference (and I'm sure there will be a difference) but a $4000 is what I question. My opinion is that it is an amazing guitar for the price.

For the small money i paid, this is the best sounding, best playing guitar i've ever had. I'd highly reccommend one for any player, beginner or experienced. Absolutely love it. I already bought a second one just like it for a friend who is just learning. Great value.
